Our Stories
In The Spotlight

Kristina is a 32-year employee of Tucson Unified but has spent the last 25 years at Pueblo Gardens PreK-8. She was initially drawn to the southside school because the principal at the time really wanted to get Kristina on her staff. Since then, Kristina has worked under five different principals over the last 25 years at Pueblo Gardens.

Through all those years, one of her favorite memories is from when “a former student stopped by one May, in her cap and gown, and presented me with a rose and a note that stated ‘Thank you for helping me in my journey,’” Kristina said.

And for now, she has no plans on retiring any time soon. That’s on her 10-year plan.

Kim has more than three decades worth of experience teaching in Tucson Unified schools. But she really built a strong rapport with the principal at her former school. That connection was current Pueblo Gardens principal Dr. Michael Konrad, and he made sure to bring Kim over to his new school as soon as he was able to. Now, Kim is in her third year at the southside school.

However, Dr. Konrad wasn’t the only reason she has stayed at Pueblo Gardens. Kim also loves the community here.

“This school is very unique, because I love Southside students and families,” Kim said. “They are a very cohesive group of families in this community. You can tell they value the school. There’s a lot of family participation.”

Rose is an Arizona transplant from Washington State. After having grown up in the Pacific Northwest, she was in need of more sunshine and better weather. So, three years ago, she moved to Tucson and has been the middle school ELA teacher at Pueblo Gardens since then.

She has fallen in love with the desert landscape and rock scaping, but one of the features of this area that continues to wow her is the sky.

“The sunsets, the clouds, the sunrises, and stars – in love with it,” Rose said.

Outside of work, Rose loves going wherever she can take her dog, including on all the walks and hikes. She also loves the food scene in southeastern Arizona.
